Vibe 15
So the other day I wrote this long blog entry about my amazing experience at Vibe 15. I went to save it forgetting to copy my entry JUST IN CASE and sure enough my OWN CMS logged me out and I lost it all. So I’ll attempt to remember what I originally wrote. First, I was there repping Kallusive and hosting a behind the scenes look at vibe. Be sure to peep the site in coming weeks for the vid. Second, let me state, the level of commercial hip hop choreo has increased to a ridiculous magnitude. The lyric matching musicality and dynamic movements are amazing to watch, especially when squads of 30 to 60 are performing the SAME movements. Mike Song’s piece from his new “family-gathering,” Anbu Black Ops was my personal favorite:
I loved choreo cookies, Kaba Modern Legacy and this piece by Unity is just beautiful, in addition to being a nice break from all the choreo choreo choreo.
As a side note, I do wanna say that I hope I can assist in being a bridge for the very large gap that exist between Street Dancers and Choreo Dancers. It always blows my mind how this kids can move sooo well doing choreo but then when you tell them to just dance, the task proves quite difficult. I also have to say that watching this “bubble” of a dance community in Irvine makes me quite envious of how it must be to have a college experience full of a supportive dance community. I didn’t have that in ATL Shawty but it makes me thankful that I found Totem and Joy my two bboyin sensei’s. Definitely grateful that I at least experienced the community that Totem built even if now where near the size of the dance bubble in So Cal.
Congrats to Choreo Cookies, Common Ground, and Team Millenia, for placing 1st,2nd,3rd. Also, remember to check out Kallusive.com in the next couple weeks for the behind the scenes look at vibe hosted by yours truly.
